Q. Does High Speed Internet use my phone line?
A. DSL High-Speed Internet does use your phone line, however,
because it uses inaudible frequencies to transmit and receive data it
does not tie up your phone line, meaning you can be on the Internet and
talk on the phone at the same time. If you have our wireless
Internet service (for those in the country, or those who live in town
but choose to use a cell phone instead of a land line) it does not
require a phone line period as your computer will communicate with our
servers wireless over the airwaves from an antenna mounted outside to
our nearest transmission tower.
Q. Can I hook up more than one computer to my High Speed Internet connection?
A. Yes! For DSL High-Speed you may already have a four-port
wireless router/modem combo unit, if not, contact customer service and
we will send you one (you will have to return your existing supplied
modem). For Wireless High Speed Internet customers you will need
to purchase a router from your local computer store. If you are
going to use a wireless router with your Wireless High Speed Internet
service you should make sure that you use a channel other than the one
used to bring High Speed to your home or office, if the two are
operating on the same channel it may cause interference and slow down
your connection.
Q. I am getting a lot of SPAM email, what can I do to stop this?
A. We do our best to filter as much spam and virus as possible
without falsely filtering non-junk mail (although it can happen at
times), if you are receiving excessive amounts of junk mail, one
solution is to change your email address which we will do for you at no
charge. To avoid getting a lot of junkmail in the first place,
make sure you do not post your email address publicly on the Internet,
or set up a secondary free email account (on Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo,
etc.) as a "disposable" email account if you must post an address
publicly or in response to a marketing campaign. Only give out
your SCS Internet email address to people you want to receive email
from, and keep in mind that some companies may sell your e-mail address
to other companies.
Q. How do I pay for my Internet service with SCS Internet?
A. We offer
three forms of payment. Automatic Visa/Mastercard billing,
Automatic Pre-Authorized Payment (debiting your chequing account), and
payment by Business Cheque/Net-14 terms for qualifying businesses.
Automatic payments are processed on the 1st of the month.
If a payment is NSF or declined, a service charge is assessed, a
notice is sent by email, and we will attempt to re-process the payment
on the 14th of the month.
